On the morning of October 19, 2019, the international delegation from Brazilian Higher Education and Private Educational Sector (ABMES) visited Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Law School. The meeting was successfully held on the 7th floor of SUFE library. The ABMES International Delegation consisted of Chairman and President of UniCarioca Mr. Celso Niskier, Executive Director Mr. Solon Hormidas Caldas, Vice Chairman and Ser Educacional Group Chairman Mr. Jose Janguie Bezarra Diniz, and other presidents and senior management of major private universities in Brazil. The members added up to forty. Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Deputy Party Secretary Chen Hong, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Law School Dean Song Xiaoyan, Deputy Dean Ge Weijun, Dean Assistant Wu Wenfang, and Pan Xiao, Cai Yuanzhen, Jiang Jize, Zhang Mingchao attended the exchange activity.

After the ABMES International Delegation arrived at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Teacher Zhang Mingchao from SUFE Law School showed them around the campus. Then, the delegation came to Yingxian Library Vigor Island and had a meeting with the leaders of SUFE, SUFE Law School and other teachers. The meeting was conducted by Song Xiaoyan, Dean of SUFE Law School.

 

Chen Hong, Deputy Party Secretary of SUFE, extended his warmest welcome to the ABMES International Delegation and Brazilian Presidents Group on behalf of our school. He also hoped that the exchange will create opportunities for the cooperation between Brazilian universities and SUFE, and set up new platforms. Subsequently, Secretary Chen introduced the history, development and status quo of SUFE. He introduced the works carried out by China-LAC Law Research Center and Training Base as well. He affirmed that this exchange will strengthen the information communication between the universities of the two countries, and enhance mutual understanding, and promote further and deeper cooperation and exchange between China and Brazil in education, culture and various areas. Finally, he hoped that SUFE and SUFE Law School will collaborate and communicate with the ABMES delegation closely, and wish all the activities in the "Chinese Year" of the Brazilian Presidents Group and ABMES a complete success.

Celso Niskier, Chairman of ABMES International Delegation, delivered a speech on behalf of ABMES. Chairman Celso Niskier thanked for the invitation by SUFE Law School. He introduced the education system and current situation of private universities in Brazil. Higher education in Brazil is composed of public schools and private schools, among them, the number of private universities accounted for 88.2% of the total number of higher education in Brazil. The education of private universities spans three stages, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral phase, and various majors such as business, management, education, engineering, and law. Among all the majors in Brazilian private universities, law is the most popular. Chairman Celso Niskier stressed that this exchange experience can significantly expand and deepen further cooperation and interactions between students and teachers in a bilateral way.

Jose Janguie Bezerra Diniz, Vice Chairman of ABMES International Delegation and a law professor at the oldest law school in Brazil, said that he and his colleagues wanted to learn from Chinese education system through crafting and establishing exchange plans and partnership between SUFE Law School and Brazilian universities because legal profession is among the most prestigious in Brazil. He cardinally invited SUFE Law School to Brazil and ABMES which currently has sixty cooperation universities.    


 

 

Later on, Edgard Larry Andrade Soares, Director of FAINOR, and Joaquim Jose Miranda Junior, Scientific Research Director of Iesla, respectively expressed their gratitude to SUFE Law School for the invitation, and sincerely hoped that this exchange can promote close cooperation between undergraduates and graduate students in Brazilian private universities and SUFE Law School.

Professor Ge Weijun, Deputy Dean of SUFE Law School, gave the basic information of SUFE Law School, including the teachers and international cooperation. Among them, " China-LAC Law Research Center" and " China-LAC Law Training Base" of the Law School have laid a good foundation for legal exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil. Professor Ge looked forward to further exchange and cooperation between SUFE Law School and Brazilian universities.

Associate Professor Wu Wenfang introduced the all-English courses ran by SUFE Law School, especially the curriculum and student employment of the Anglo-American Law Certificate program, the all-English LL.M. project and the all-English Ph.D. project. A.P. Wu believed that the all-English courses will provide foundation and platform for the cooperation between SUFE Law School and private universities in Brazil.

The discussion section was conducted by Lioudmila Ivanovna Batourina, ABMES international cooperation consultant. Ricardo Luiz Salvador, Edgard Larry Andrade Soares, Joaquim Jose Miranda Junior, Evandro Menezes de Carvalho and other representatives from ABMES International Delegation had a lovely discussion with the teachers from SUFE Law School about the school’s curriculum, all-English programs, legal talents training, student internships, online teaching platforms, etc.

 

 

At the end of the meeting, ABMES International Delegation presented gifts to SUFE Law School. The meeting ended in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
