LL.M. Program

On the afternoon of November 19, 2019, Professor David Faigman, the Dean of the University of California Hastings College of the Law, and Professor Keith Hand, Vice-Dean of International Projects, visited the Law School of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The meeting was held in the conference room 211 of the Law School. Professor Song Xiaoyan, the Dean of the School of Law, Professor Ge Weijun, Vice-Dean, Associate Professor Wu Wenfang, Vice-Dean, and Huang Qian, Secretary of Foreign Affairs attended the meeting

On behalf of the Law School, Prof. Song Xiaoyan expressed warm greetings to the two guests, as well as wished that this meeting would create opportunities for future cooperation between the two institutes. Prof. David Faigman responded by conveying his willingness to cooperate in many fields. He pointed out that Hastings Law School has always attached great importance to international exchange programs. Currently, Hastings School of Law has established exchange programs with more than a dozen law schools in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. The LLM and JD programs of Hastings Law School attracts many foreign students to study here every year.

Vice-Dean Ge Weijun gave a detailed introduction about the development of the SUFE Law School, including faculty, student training, English courses, foreign cooperation and exchanges, summer schools and international summer courses, and part-time professors etc. Associate Professor Wu Wenfang introduced the "Common Law Certificate Program" of the School of Law. The project started in 2012 and is the first all-English typical project of the law school in the country. It systematically teaches basic courses of Common Law in the undergraduate stage, and cultivates students' various capabilities and comparative law thinking. Professor Keith J. Hand expressed his deep impression on this and extended his warm welcome and expectation for Chinese students to exchange and study in Hastings College of the Law. The meeting concluded with a pleasant ending.

 

According to reports, the University of California Hastings College of the Law is the first law school in California. Hastings College of the Law is located in San Francisco, one of the most beautiful, creative and international cities in the United States. The superior location brings many benefits. All levels of federal, state, and district courts, including the California Supreme Court, are all close to Hastings’ campus. In addition, the San Francisco government, many international law firms and legal aid agencies are also adjacent to Hastings campus. These institutions play a key role in the economic development of the United States and the Asia-Pacific region. Therefore, students of Hastings Law School not only have the opportunity to do research at the top rank law schools in the United States, but also have the opportunity to accumulate rich internship experience. In addition, in San Francisco, an inclusive, open, diverse and international city, students of Hastings College of the Law have more opportunities to interact with people from different countries and understand legal concepts and legal systems of each country.
